Ceremony of Beginning for the Transition Interim Minister of First Christian Church

A church family continues to change. Members come  and go in our church life. It is important to recognize these times of passage, of beginnings and endings. Today we share in a time of beginning as we officially welcome Brian Nelson to serve as Transition Minister of our congregation.

Dale Petrie: Brian Nelson, in the presence of the congregation of First Christian Church, will you commit yourself to this new trust and responsibility, and promise to discharge your duties in harmony with the will of God, the Design for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Bylaws of this church?

Brian: I will, and I ask God to help me.

Dale Petrie: Will you love, serve, and pray for these people of God, nourishing them with the Word while you lead them during this important transition time?

Brian: I will, and I ask God to help me.

Dale Petrie: Will you lead this people of God in giving faithful witness to the Word and making known the love of God through loving service among themselves and in thiscommunity?

Brian: I will, and I ask God to help me.

Dale Petrie: As members of this congregation, you have heard Brian's promises. Will you receive him as a minister of Christ who continues the work of sharing the Gospel of hope and salvation? Will you regard him as a fellow servant of Christ and work with him in the ministry of this congregation?

Congregation: We will.

Dale Petrie: Will you pray for him, and in all things strive to live together in the peace and unity of Christ?

Congregation: We will.

Dale Petrie: Brian, with your statements of commitment and the affirmation of this congregation, we welcome you as our Transition Minister.
